State Emergency Operations Center Activated to Support NH Communities

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Safety's Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) has activated the State Emergency Operations Center at Enhanced Monitoring at noon on Sunday to support local communities who are trying to clean up from the storm, including those who have significant power outages.

"Anyone performing storm cleanup should wear protective clothing and be cautious to avoid injury," said HSEM Director Robert Buxton. "Downed power lines and debris can pose a danger. If you do come across downed power lines, stay away and call 911."

Utility crews continue to assess the damage and restore power across the state. As of noon Sunday, more than 64,000 customers in New Hampshire remain without power.

Director Buxton makes the following safety recommendations:

  • Drivers should use extra caution, go slow and be alert for crews clearing debris. Never drive around barriers or remove them from closed roadways.
  • Do not use a gas range or oven as an alternate source of heat.
  • Only use a generator that has been wired to the house electrical service by a professional electrician.
  • Never run a generator inside a building or in an enclosed space and keep them 20 feet away from buildings with the exhaust pointed away.
