Winter Storm Knocks Out Power to More Than 100,000 in NH

State Emergency Operations Center to Open at 8 a.m.

Concord, NH – As of 7:30 a.m., more than 100,000 customers are without power across New Hampshire as a storm brings snow and heavy winds to the region. The New Hampshire Department of Safety's Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) will activate the State Emergency Operations Center at Enhanced Monitoring at 8 a.m. on Thursday to support local communities who may need assistance, including those who have significant power outages.

"If you lose power, keep you and your family safe," said HSEM Director Robert Buxton. "Practice power outage safety. Never run a generator indoors. If you come across downed wires, stay away and call 911. If you haven't lost power yet, take time to prepare you and your family for a possible outage as the storm continues."

Report power outages to your utility provider every 24 hours until it is restored:

Director Buxton makes the following safety recommendations:

  • Stay informed by signing up for NH Alerts and monitoring National Weather Service radio or broadcast weather reports.
  • Find the latest road conditions at newengland511.org.
  • Slow down and move over for emergency vehicles and never crowd the plow.
  • Clear all snow and ice off your car, including your roof, around lights, and license plates before traveling.
  • Only use a generator that has been wired to the house electrical service by a professional electrician.
